Ziploc Omelet Recipe

ziploc omeletHere’s a new twist on an old favorite. Check out this recipe for boiling an omelet in a freezer bag.

Ingredients:

Ziploc Brand (or comparable) freezer bag

4 egg whites

1/2 cup shopped vegetables (your choice)

Cooking Instructions

Add eggs to freezer bag. Close bag securely. Shake bag vigorously. Open bag and insert chopped vegetables (I like onions, green pepper, hot sauce, and black pepper). Close bag while trying to get out all of the air space. You want the bag to be as air free as possible. Place bag containing egg and vegetables/seasonings in a pot of rolling, boiling water for around 13 minutes. after your omelet has cooked long enough, remove from boiling water and simply open the bag. The omelet will roll right out of the bag. Be careful when handling the bag as it will be very hot.

Substitutions:

You can substitute the egg whites for whole eggs if you would like but this will increase the calories and fat of the omelet. You can also use a product like egg beaters. I would use about 1/2 - 3/4 cups of egg beaters.
